Dear Friends and Neighbors:
Spring in Wyoming – snow, daffodils, calves, soccer, snow, rain, mud, and so on. Then, the sun comes out, grass comes on and we all get excited for soccer, girls fast pitch and adult softball, youth baseball and generally playing outside and getting together with family friends. This year is also all about creating a new play space for Sheridan and our visitors.
This new Sheridan community project is aptly called Doubleday Sports Complex in enormous thanks and gratitude to Butch Jellis and Neltje, local owners of the Wrench Ranch. They recognized and gladly supported the eight user groups and early partners who all rallied together to pursue this great plan by donating the 42- acre parcel for our new community sports complex. Once Neltje heard the details, she commented: “Dream Bigger” a truly astounding comment when all those gathered were mindfully dreaming just big enough. But now, empowered with the camaraderie and support of each other and a public-private partnership with the City of Sheridan, the dreamers are now pushing ahead, dreaming bigger and digging in.
Our intention is to build a community recreation complex that will have baseball, soccer, and softball fields designed specifically with flexibility so that fields can be laid-out as needed to host tournament play or practice. Fields will also be available for Little Guy football, other Sheridan Recreation Department activities, and community events. The complex will have an internal walk/run pathway and could ultimately connect with the Sheridan Pathways. There will also be safe community areas for siblings to play, family picnics, and team gatherings. The land we currently own is located at the north end of Sheridan and will be part of the beautiful gateway into our community.
We believe this is a true countywide collaborative and will establish a regional sports destination and economic stimulant to our local economy through visitors and new events. Our board alone represents Sheridan Youth Baseball, Sheridan Babe Ruth Baseball, Sheridan Legion Baseball, Sheridan Storm Soccer, Sheridan Adult Softball, Sheridan Recreation District, and Sheridan College with leadership support and partnership with the City of Sheridan. As you can see we have a large base and are committed to meeting the needs of athletes across ages and sports. To achieve these goals, we all need to contribute, building for now and the future.
We are hopeful that you will join us in perhaps the largest collaborative undertaking in Sheridan’s recent history. Just as it takes the whole team to have a successful season, this effort will only be successful if our whole community commits to the plan and contributes. So please join us in creating a space where all ages and abilities may gather to have fun and make memories. Your commitment will not only make you part of this incredible moment to provide an amenity for our community, but you will be on the Doubleday team – creating a legacy for all.
Together, lets all dream bigger and build Doubleday!
